The bariatric surgery
The Bariatric Surgery is a Super-specialist in Digestive Surgery. It mustn’t be performed by any general Surgeon that hasn’t got enough experience and dedication to this type of surgery. Furthermore If the surgery is performed by Laparoscopy, the surgeon must be a Super-Expert in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, with special skills in wound suture and applied technology. If Robotics is applied, his/her training must be total.
The Learning Curve for Bariatric Surgery by Laparoscopy must exceed 200 cases at least to be able to operate in an independent way and it is necessary at least five years of total dedication to it. Before getting this experience, the surgeon must operate with the supervision of an Expert that guarantees the success of the procedure.
The Bariatric Laparoscopic Surgeon must belong to the Spanish Society of Obesity Surgery, to the Spanish Society of Laparoscopic Surgery, to the International Federation for the Surgical Obesity and to different Scientific Societies of Laparoscopic Surgery such as the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery and other similar throughout worldwide associations.
Bariatric Surgeons must entirely dedicate themselves to a daily performance of this type of Surgery and to their patients for life.

This type of surgery isn’t “Endocrine Surgery†because glands of internal secretion (such as thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas and suprarenal glands) are neither ill nor operated. Furthermore it must not be considered “Aesthetic or Cosmetic Surgery†because the objective of this surgery is to manage to lose weight in order to prevent the complications caused by obesity. Aesthetic benefits are important but they are secondary in this type of surgery.

How to know the obesity degree
The handiest way to know the obesity degree of a person is knowing the Body Mass Index. It is a connection between weight and height. It is calculated by dividing the weight in kilos by the squared height in metres.
BMI= Kg. / m2.
In this way, we find that each person could suffer different obesity degrees: depending on the Body Mass Index
(Kg / m2)

Calculate the Body Mass Index (BMI)
If you enter the data that our scales ask you for, then you will see that depending on the result of your Body Mass Index (BMI), you are recommended to do something about it; from an appropriate diet to medical advices if your result is in the parameter of obesity.
