For years we have had to treat our Obese patients in the limited, small, multidisciplinary and inhospitable places that the different Hospitals have provided us. Sometimes even without a miserable fairly comfortable chair where sit down.

Always with limited time, without any kind of sensitivity, always with “queues” waiting behind the door, with continuous phone calls, with interference, with unauthorized people coming in and out, with noise and without properly attending. Never understanding the special character, complexity and sometimes the severe and serious related comorbidities that cause disability. Never trying the slightest effort to understand what means to be condemned to a Disease so serious as Morbid or Super – Morbid Obesity.

When we decided to set up the International Centre for the Study and Treatment of Obesity (C.T.O.) and open a Clinic Specializing in Obesity, we did it thinking about how to make possible that special atmosphere of calm, transparency and confidence that Obesity patients need with their Doctor.

To do it, we choose the most comfortable and best place served with by public transport, in the centre of town and near our reference Hospital (Campo Grande Hospital, at Columbus Square in Valladolid, Spain). The Building Plaza Columbus, opposite The Hospital and newly opened, complied with all conditions to it.

The Clinic had to be specially painted, furnished, lighted up, designed, soundproofed, fitted out and decorated to transmit serenity, comfort, calmness and confidence between patient and Doctor.

The clinic had to be a quiet and relaxed place, where only the background classical music could be listened, the expressiveness of a historical work of art, enjoy comfortably yourself in any place and any kind of literature both specialist one and leisure one, in Spanish or English, it could be useful with any required but always short wait. The always planned appointments and with enough time both to do check-ups and receive new patients, guarantee that objective far from the overcrowding and lack of control.

The clinic had to have spacious, comfortable and cosy offices combining painting and polychrome sculpture masterpieces of past centuries with furniture of the latest and most daring design; where the most advanced computer device will be combined with the purest and most direct graphic and spoken information.

The Office must be therefore an authentic “cult place” between the patient and his/her surgeon, where the information and last scientific knowledges are combined with both self experience and past experts and where open sincerity of the patient, his/her clinical complexity and serious Disease were expresed, understood and sufficiently explained. A place where we can spend 3- 4 or 5 hour if it is necessary, of relaxed and profitable conversation without interruptions or frights, with absolute privacy, with all the assurance and that final confidence that makaes that at the end of each interview one think that have just got involved to a new patient “for life”.

A Clinic equiped at the same time with the most studied Medical Examination Room and Box, integrating the most sophisticated equipment and devices that have come on the market with the comfort and exquisite privacy that all Obese patient must have in his/her treatment.

Therefore, our Clinic is different from the others, it is a pleasant, clean and spacious place; it’s a joint house between Doctor and Patient; it’s a refuge for whom lost all hope of recovery and they think they are forgotten and maltreated by the Society; it’s an Art and Science Museum at the service of the Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery: the most sophisticated, complex and advanced one in the world that is specially used to treat with the last technology, experience, knowledge and necessary skills to all of those Obese Patients that need us and knock or doors.

There we will be waiting for them.
